01|Feb|2010 1I have to say that I had a hard time deciding whether to rate these speakers at four or five stars. They sound great and the price was excellent. My only issues are:
1. The product description says that they are white, but they are not. They are kind of a grayish color and, according to the box, are intended to be spray painted. This is not a huge deal, but the product description should accurately reflect what you are buying.
2. When I hooked up the left rear speaker, I found that no sound was coming out. I took the speaker out and hooked the old one back up - still no sound. Turns out that my seven-year-old receiver is having issues. Neither the front right nor the rear left speakers are putting out more than a whisper.
How does that relate to the speakers? I’m glad you asked. Well, I found that when taking the speaker out, it is very easy to lose the sheet rock clamps if you unscrew the screws too much. Otherwise, it’s a bear to get the speaker out. Luckily, I had a cross stud not too far down and was able to reach it.
Other than that, the speakers sound great - at least the one that I am getting sound out of does anyway. Now I’m just waiting on my new Onkyo receiver to get here…

01|Feb|2010 2For the price I would not recommend purchasing the Polk RC55i speakers. They do not deliver the the degree of brillance one would expect in speakers in this price range. The tones, at best, are muddy.

02|Feb|2010 3I am overall very pleased with these speakers. Unfortunately, there were a few unforeseen glitches that I ran into that were not anyone’s fault. My builder put wood between the studs in the wall where I wanted to mount the speakers. This was done because he thought I was going to mount regular speakers. I had all of my speaker wire installed behind the drywall as the house was being built 12 years ago. Of course this was great when I had regular speakers but . . . I recently decided to mount in-wall speakers. Thus, I had to purchase a reciprocal saw to cut the wood from the wall. The other glitch was that I wanted to paint the speakers using latex paint as I decided to repaint the room. Latex paint will work, but you have to be patient and use multiple coats. So, what should have taken minutes actually took many hours. This is not Polk’s fault as my situation was somewhat unique. The bottom line is that the speakers look and sound great. I’m very pleased with the purchase. Now I have to decide if I should replace my front speakers. Hmm. . .

02|Feb|2010 4The speakers are great. Polk products never disappoint. I wasnt happy with the way they were shipped. They were left in the same boxes as if they were bought from the store and they were just put in a plastic bag. It was pouring the day they were delivered and the speakers were sitting in a puddle of water that accumulated inside the bag.

02|Feb|2010 5After purchasing a 61″ Samsung DLP for Christmas, I knew I needed surround sound. My wife did NOT want speakers hanging on the wall! I therefore purchased these speakers as the side surround speakers and they have a remarkably clear sound.
They are a terrific buy for the price.
