26|Jan|2010 1The speakers are very nice for the price. For some reason, I can hear some static and popping fairly often. I’m new to this, so I can’t tell if it is the cables/input/speakers etc. I will say that it was obvious that my speakers were dropped on a corner somewhere along the way. The cabinet smashed the edge of the speaker a little, but I doubt it damaged the sound capability. That is really more of a problem when buying on-line rather than a problem with the quality of the speaker. I’d return them, but it’s way too much trouble due to size.

26|Jan|2010 2These speakers surprised me as they seemed so lacking in bass. But the projection and midrange and high-end detail of these things is truly, for the price, astounding. But if you want the whole scene, you will have to get a subwoofer. However, the sheer presence of these things is so much closer to being at a live show than any speakers I have heard of. And they’re so balanced; yes, they have a very powerful midrange, but there is no distortion. And the stereo separation is so clean. For $300, I have never heard anything near them. Still, I would reccomend getting a subwoofer as I was surprised by their lack of bass; however, the bass they present is totally accurate– it’s just not big; but it’s accurate. I really love these speakers, even without a subwoofer, and that’s what sold me– eventually I’ll get a sub, but even without it, I just love their sound.

26|Jan|2010 3This is a great sounding resonable priced speaker. I like the fact it is priced as single speakers it is easier to afford that way less money to have to save up at once.I am using them with a pioneer elite set up. I am also using Polk csi3 center Polk monitor 30 rears and a Polk satilite rear center and a custom 300 watt kenwood exelon db sub it sounds great!!!! Best system I ever Had.

26|Jan|2010 4Did some research, checked Consumer Reports, sent for the Polks. I’m more than satisfied. The sound is bright, strong, and absolutely clear. The bass is fine, too, with accurate reproduction of concussion and strings. I bought these with a center speaker, but have no sub-woofer needs, since I listen to jazz and classical and am not looking to thump myself out of the room. I give them a 4 instead of a 5 only because I figure there must be something better out there that costs a lot more.

26|Jan|2010 5The Polk Monitor 50 tower speakers are just terrific for the money. The highs are clean and well defined and the bass is substantial without being overbearing. Polk definitely has another winner on it’s hands with these. Some reviewers have complained about weak bass, but I don’t see that as being true. Unless of course you’re a head banger and you like your bass seriously and artificially augmented. Then, just add a sub-woofer. These are very nice sounding speakers for a really terrific price. Matched up with the Polk CS1 center channel speaker and you have the perfect surround speakers (at least for the front). Add the Monitor 30’s or 40’s for the rears! Highly recommended.
