I have a home theatre in a box, and there’s not HDMI input on it, only output. I have a PS3. I connected it with a HDMI to the HDTV for picture.
Now for sound, should I connect it directly from the PS3 to the home theatre with a Optical cable or connect it from the TV to home theatre with an Optical Cable?
Thanks.

01|Jan|2010 1Connect optical cable from PS3 to Home Theater System is the best way. You just get stereo sound ( 2 channel ) if you connect optical cable from TV to Home Theater System.

01|Jan|2010 2Connecting straight from the PS3 to the home theatre is the most direct route, therefore the best for sound. Optical is a great way to go. However you may not even notice a difference in sound if you ran it through your tv because there are more factors involved such as the quality of the home theatre, the soundtrack quality, the PS3’s ability to send accurate sound through the optical cable. Also, your tv might do a good job at preserving the sound quality. If you run the optical cable through the tv you might not have to switch the receiver back and forth from tv to PS3 to get sound, but that depends on the receiver and how you run your cable tv sound. Try both ways and see which is more convenient, that’s what I’d go with.

02|Jan|2010 3You are in the right track!!
HDMI directly from PS3 to HD TV and Optical Cable from PS3 to surround, but wait… You have to select on PS3 menu HDMI for Video only and in Audio Settings in PS3 too, check mark all types of audio, at time of play back it will recognize the right one.Maybe you must assign Optical connection in your receiver also, go to Menu.

02|Jan|2010 4Always take the shortest route for the best sound, ie from your Sony PS3 optical to your HTIB system.
