My home is pre-wired for speakers. Now that I have cut the hole in the ceilings and I’m ready to connect speaker, I realize speaker has positive and negative, but there is only one wire coming out of ceiling. What do I do?

18|Feb|2010 1examine it closely. it may be a pair that was clipped off so that it looks like a single wire. If after you strip the end of the wire of insulation, you don’t see a second wire, I would go back to the other end and make sure there is a second wire there. If not, use the one wire to pull through a new pair of wires.
Good luck

18|Feb|2010 2If you have pos and neg you’re good to go on the speaker side. Sounds odd that the ceiling wiring has only one cable. Are you sure you haven’t missed something? Have you stripped the insulation from the cables yet???
More info required.

18|Feb|2010 3It may look like one wire but if you pull back the insulation are there two different wires wound together? If so you just use those. Otherwise you can not hook it up correctly. Speakers require the + and - to be able to move the speaker with the electro-magnet. If you only have one wire you have no way to alternate the power.
